Community Priorities
Botany
Vision - Progressive, Proud and Prosperous:
Botany will be a community where different cultures are woven together to create a strong and unique identity; a safe and attractive place where people enjoy good health and excellent educational facilities; an employment centre with efficient roads linking businesses throughout the Auckland Region, and which will contribute to a thriving regional economy, while preserving and sustaining environmental and heritage values.
The Botany community identified the following areas as needing particular attention:
Educated and Knowledgeable People
- Ensure provision of pre-school activities in the area
- Maintain high standard of educational facilities.
Vibrant and Strong Communities
- Ensure sufficient parks, reserves, community facilities and public spaces meet community demand
- Establish a Botany identity.
Safe Communities
- Police to focus on community priorities, e.g. burglary, graffiti, speeding.
- Increase police presence and visibility in Botany.
- Ensure streets allow for better parking, service and emergency vehicle access.
- Enforce speed limits.
Moving Manukau
- Reduce congestion through development and completion of an efficient roading network, linking Botany to employment centres in the Auckland region
- Promote and provide local public transport, such as smaller buses and ‘Link’ services.
Healthy People
- Improve physical access to health facilities, including hospitals.
Thriving Economy
- Ensure transport infrastructure can cope with business demands
- Create local work opportunities.
Sustainable Environment and Heritage
- Locate national grid transmission lines underground
- Maintain heritage assets within Botany – e.g. the historic farmhouse.
