Wiri Improvement Programme Project – project update

Since the project started in 2007, a Wiri Community Engagement Survey has been carried out, a number of houses have been removed from Laurelia Place in Rata Vine and concept design plans drawn up for redevelopment. A community house is being established for the use of residents which will also offer organisations working in the Wiri/Rata Vine area a local contact point, helping to improve the community’s access to services.

There are also plans to improve access to early childhood education for the area’s families with children under five years of age.

To ensure residents have strong involvement in the programme, information days have been held and participants provided with an opportunity to say how they (by working together and with the organisations involved in the project) can contribute to making Wiri a better place to live.

As a result of the information days, a public meeting was held in July, resulting in a residents’ group for the area being formed. Further work is now being carried out with families living in the Wiri area.
