Why We Do It
Tomorrow’s Manukau - Manukau Āpōpō is an evolving approach founded on the belief that all Manukau people can have the self-confidence and voice to lead Manukau into its future.
Published in 2001, the first Tomorrow’s Manukau Manukau Āpōpō document was based on the principles that knowing what we want to achieve as a city and working together to make this happen are the best foundations for development.
This approach was nationally acknowledged as a step forward in encouraging collaborative approaches to community wellbeing. It influenced the Local Government Act (2002), which now requires all Local Authorities to identify community outcomes.
Promoting social change and improving Manukau’s wellbeing is a complex, contested and long-term process requiring participation and debate. A commitment to co-operation is needed from a range of people, businesses, public and voluntary sector organisations and members of the community.
Tomorrow’s Manukau - Manukau Āpōpō provides a framework for thinking and acting towards this future.
